'Mon Mai' (Thai : หม่อนไหม) : Mulberry Silkworm
"Mon Mai" is an original musical piece created by Nakira Pansurini from the sounds of her surroundings in the city of Chiang Mai (Thailand), the city famous for its production of Thai silk produced from the cocoons of Thai silkworms.
In the making of this project, recorded sounds from my surroundings were blended, distorted, and reversed in my own musical expressions to tell the story of the bittersweet, short life cycle of silkworms.
Silkworms produce pupa by feeding on mulberry leaves. To keep itself alive during the pupa stage, the silkworm weaves a net around itself. They close themselves in a cocoon where they undergo the slow and laborious transformation that will allow them to be reborn and free as a moth.
The music video plays with the notion of symmetry in nature - the best artist in the universe.
